Christmas tree colorants are formulated for professional growers who want to enhance the green appearance of trees as they approach harvest. Our color-enhancing products are non-toxic, environmentally safe, and contain no heavy metals or mercury.
Different Christmas tree species have different natural foliage characteristics, so Kirk offers multiple formulations rather than a single colorant for every tree. The current Colorant category includes 15 products, with formulations such as Leyland Cypress, Needlehold, Needlehold XL, Premium Fir Green, Super Pinegreen, Super Pinegreen SF II, Virginia Pinegreen, and Fir RestorGreen, offered across available container sizes.
For example, Premium Fir Green is specifically formulated for true firs—including Balsam, Fraser, Grand, Korean, Noble, and Nordmann—as well as Douglas and spruce trees. Leyland Cypress Color Enhancer is formulated specifically for the distinctive foliage color of Leyland cypress.
Colorant is diluted with water, mixed in a spray tank, and applied uniformly to the trees. Kirk recommends early application before the first frost while trees are still green. For its Leyland Cypress and Premium Fir Green products, Kirk identifies August or early September as the usual period for this early application.
Early application also has an operational advantage. One gallon diluted with 30 gallons of water covers approximately 65 trees when applied before yellowing. If application is delayed until trees have yellowed, we recommend a stronger dilution.

How It Works
- Identify the tree species being treated and select the appropriate Kirk colorant formulation.
- Determine tree condition. Kirk's documented instructions distinguish between early treatment while foliage is still green and treatment after yellowing has occurred.
- Add part of the required water to the spray tank first.
- Add the measured colorant according to the product's specified dilution.
- Agitate slowly to obtain thorough mixing.
- Spray uniformly over the trees being treated.
- Follow the individual product directions for dilution, application timing, handling, and any other requirements.

Unused, non-defective merchandise may be considered for return if it is:

- Unless a product is determined to be defective due to manufacturer's defect or our error, all return shipping costs are the responsibility of the customer. A 20% restocking fee will apply to all approved non-defective returns.
